The Senior Software Engineering Manager is a senior-level leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple software development teams, driving departmental strategy, and ensuring the alignment of software projects with organizational goals. They play a pivotal role in setting departmental goals and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and lead multiple software engineering teams, setting clear objectives and priorities that align with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Directs the system development lifecycle including the design, coding, testing, documentation, installation, maintenance, and support of proprietary and/or purchased software systems/applications.
  • Responsible for systems performance and quality assurance testing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures testing and documentation satisfies customer expectations.
  • Make decisions regarding application enhancements as necessary.
  • Define and execute departmental strategies, including resource allocation, budgeting, and technology adoption.
  • Collaborate with other department heads and executives to ensure that software initiatives align with the overall company strategy.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the software engineering department.
  • Mentor and coach software managers and leaders within the organization, providing guidance and growth opportunities.
  • Oversee complex software projects, monitor progress, and address challenges to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement within the department.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding, setting and evaluating performance goals to identify, attract, and retain top talent.
  • Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and succession planning.
  • Developing risk mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of newer technologies like cloud, mobile, Analytics, any certification will be advantageous.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and/or training required
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years’ experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, API’s and distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of Microservices architecture, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, API design and distributed systems, Observability and monitoring solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and architecture reviews.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of managing and leading software teams.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
