We are seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us maintain the reliability and performance of our systems. Description: As a Site Reliability Engineer at Canada Life, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our software systems and infrastructure. You will work closely with development and operations teams to integrate reliability into the software development lifecycle and automate processes to improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop instrumentation for monitoring and incident response that continuously tracks system performance and availability and automates responses to minimize downtime.
  • Automate repetitive tasks to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
  • Optimize system performance and uptime through proactive monitoring and adjustments as needed.
  • Plan for future capacity needs to ensure systems can handle growth and increased load.
  • Work closely with development and business operations teams to integrate reliability into the software development lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement across application technology and shared infrastructure
  • Collaborate with internal teams contributing ideas for reliability standards, best practices, and methodologies
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve service resiliency
  • Drive post-incident reviews to conduct thorough root cause analysis and recommend actionable strategies for continuous improvement

Skills and Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer.
  • Expertise in Splunk, AppDynamics, and Dynatrace or its equivalent.
  • Experience and working knowledge of:
    • Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure)
    • GitLab
    • Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
    • Jira, Confluence
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to self-learn new technology and systems
  • A background demonstrating an expertise in problem-solving, critical thinking skills and an attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership accomplishments with the ability to teach and mentor others is critical
  • Appropriate backgrounds include:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related educational field.
    • Certifications in cloud, Kubernetes or SRE practices are a plus
