The Retirement Plan Document Consultant is responsible for reviewing and ensuring the accurate restatement and amendment of retirement plan documents for new and existing Empower clients. It involves strategic consultation with internal teams, plan sponsors, financial advisors, and legal counsel to align retirement plan design with regulatory requirements. The role demands a strong understanding of defined contribution plan regulations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while providing expert-level support in plan documentation and compliance.
What you will do
Consult on complex plan designs, negotiate changes, and coordinate execution of final plan documents and amendments, ensuring compliance with client needs and regulatory standards
Review retirement plan provisions to ensure accurate document restatements and amendments, with a focus on both new and existing Empower clients
Serve as a key resource for internal and external partners, including plan sponsors, financial advisors, and legal counsel, offering guidance on Empower’s retirement plan documents and design options
Support IRS-mandated cyclical restatements by conducting strategic plan document reviews, ensuring alignment with updated codes and regulations
Perform quality assurance checks to validate accuracy, compliance, and operational alignment of retirement plan documents, while also reviewing and advising on protected benefits
Provide guidance on document operations, including how protected benefits apply within defined contribution plans, and deliver actionable options based on regulatory knowledge
Collaborate with Plan Document Specialists by reviewing existing plan documents, completing transfer checklists, and clarifying amendments to streamline the preparation of new plans
What you will bring
3–5 years of experience with retirement plan administration, compliance, or document services
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or equivalent experience
Solid understanding of ERISA, IRS regulations, and protected benefits rules related to retirement plans
Proven ability to review and interpret legal documents, including plan documents, amendments, and fee schedules
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make judgment calls with limited oversight
What will set you apart
Previous experience with plan design changes working directly with clients.
Previous experience working with ASC
Project management experience or ability to manage multiple document cycles, conversions, or special restatements
Strong Excel skills
Experience supporting large-scale plan restatement cycles
Familiarity with 403(b), 457, or non-qualified plan documents

Base Salary Range
$77,900.00 - $110,000.00The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
