As a Senior Director Platform Engineering, you will guide our adoption of a Site Reliability Engineering model for all value streams, as well as improve our infrastructure-as-code pipelines and expand our EKS based microservice platform across the Empower enterprise. Helping our autonomous cross-functional teams to be more productive is a top priority, as well as safeguarding our security and legacy of trust with automated controls, and continuously and significantly improve scalability and observability of our systems.
What you will do:
- Build, grow, and manage high performance engineering teams, including participating in the building of roadmaps, visions and the strategic activities of the teams
- Work with developers, quality engineers, security engineers, data engineers, DBAs, and product managers to build Infrastructure, Security, and Operation as Code to deliver highly secure and scalable applications that delight users and engineers alike
- Improve the design of legacy applications and advocate for Cloud Native patterns
- Leverage SRE to drive continuous improvement to our applications and processes
- Build and foster relationships with departments across Engineering and throughout the business
- Work with a broad portfolio in a fast-moving company and capable of creating positive change
- Lead by example, pull your sleeves up, and perform the hands-on work as needed to build and deploy pipelines as well as automation for internal processes keeping the development team performing at a high level
- Demonstrate strong leadership through strong verbal and written communication keeping leadership informed, creating organizational goals and working with other teams
- Help remove technical obstacles, help enhance team processes, and drive resolutions for complex issues
- Mentor, coach, and support individuals in their career growth through 1x1s and developing healthy relationships
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent (an additional four years of hands-on work experience) required
- 10 years or more experience with AWS including the designing, building, operating of large-scale applications
- 6 years of experience in managing a DevOps/SRE or Engineering organization and passion to mentor and lead talented engineers
- Expert-level experience in building fully automated infrastructures (preferably in AWS, EKS, Gitlab and Terraform)
- Experience setting up observability tools (SRE) and know how to drive their adoption with development teams
- Hands-on experience working with, operating, and deploying CI/CD and IaC pipelines
- Istio and AWS IAM experience
What will set you apart:
- Master’s degree from an accredited College or University preferred
- Software engineering background
- Experience supporting data platforms/tools such as Spark, EMR and Sagemaker
- Experience developing an Internal Development Platform
- Know how to modernize web applications and support a migration to Cloud, IaC, SRE, EKS patterns
- Ability to work with people cooperatively and effectively from all organizations and levels of leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Base Salary Range
$132,600.00 - $192,300.00The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
