The Empower Benefit Consulting Services organization is a team of professionals focused on delivering actuarial consulting solutions and services to meet the financial needs of our clients. As an Actuarial Associate you will support the delivery of actuarial services for our consulting practice, which includes defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), retiree healthcare (RHC), equity compensation and consumer directed health (CDH) solutions.  For our defined benefit and retiree healthcare clients you will develop an understanding of how to apply applicable retirement law, regulations and procedures to perform routine deliverables.

For our defined contribution clients, you will develop an understanding of the rules and regulations around defined contribution plans along with learning to consult on plan design.

For our equity compensation clients, you will gain an understanding of the various types of equity compensation benefits and how the design of those programs fits into a client's overall compensation package.

For our CDH clients you will gain exposure to the portfolio of options available to high-deductible healthcare coverages to help determine the best fit and optimal design of their healthcare offering.

You will work primarily on recurring and occasionally ad hoc assignments, building productive internal/external working relationships while getting to know our team and company in the process. You may be eligible for support towards actuarial exam progression through our Actuarial Development Program.

What you will do:

  • Complete annual funding valuations, government filings, and ASC 715 pension and welfare disclosures for DB and Retiree Health (OPEB) clients’ plans.
  • Provide information requested by accountants in connection with plan audits.
  • Prepare any necessary information requested by clients with respect to consultative opportunities for DB, DC, Non-Qualified, and OPEB plans.
  • Prepare complex non-discrimination testing on DC and DB plans.
  • Build knowledge and understanding of DB, DC, Non-Qualified, and OPEB plans, as well as equity compensation and CDH solutions, with the goal of becoming a holistic consultant.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics or finance
  • 0-3 years of experience, preferably in the actuarial, retirement, or employee benefits space
  • Understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel macros/Visual Basic
  • Strong analytical mindset and mathematical skills
  • Creative problem solving and intellectual curiosity
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Personal accountability with a strong attention to detail, proactive nature, and an eye toward process improvement
  • Ability to successfully work on multiple projects at a time and deliver timely results 
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse and collaborative team environment, plus the skills to work independently and efficiently

What will set you apart:

  • DB, DC, RHC, CDH and equity compensation product understanding
  • Ability to apply basic actuarial principles to resolve retirement plan issues 
  • Preferred candidate will have passed at least 2 actuarial exams (support for exam progression is provided through our Actuarial Development Program)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Python & ProVal software are a plus

Base Salary Range

$70,800.00 - $99,975.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
